One of the toughest parts of being an entrepreneur is finding that moment of productivity and working as hard as you can during that time to produce results that get you paid. Over the years, it has become clear that entrepreneursseem to get done in a few hours what takes others 40 hours a week to do, but the truth is that the others get the same work done in a few hours that the entrepreneur does, they like us spend the rest of the time talking about all the interruptions that we get!
The truth is that human beings don't really work consistently for 40 hours a week at anytime. This is so true that I can prove it to you if you have Microsoft Outlook. Open it up and then find the journal feature in the lower left hand corner. Click on it and start recording your total work time. Stop it when you get interrupted. Stop it when you go to the bathroom. Stop it when any interruption happens and don't start it until you are back working at the task at hand.
Be prepared to find out that you most likely don't even work two hours a day! That is, you don't spend two hours a day producing real results. If you are counting driving as work, then you best be doing something of value other than just driving, like listening to material that will improve your results instead of talking on the phone about what you are going to do this weekend, or gossiping about something. If you want to get more out of your day, you need to spend time focused on doing work that will produce results.
Once you realize the time that is wasted, you will realize that you need to make some major changes in your process. This section is focused in on helping you to maximize your productive time and free up the time most important to your family and friends.
Like anything of value, your commitment is required to make this work. This time, the commitment you are going to make is to yourself and no one else. You have to first help yourself before you can help anyone else. You simply cannot give what you do not first have yourself.
Your first step is to use that journal feature. Record your activity in your calendar showing how much actual time you worked and also record interruptions as well. Note how much time they took. Even record bathroom and refreshment breaks. You need to know how you are spending your time.
Do this for a week and then come back to find out how you can move forward by reading the first lesson in the "Time Management" section.
