BlogA few nights ago, we met with a local CEO Mastermind group. During that meeting a strategy was brought up on how to not only hold yourself accountable, but your team as well. That idea was brought fourth by Curt Nelson (who recently launched his new book Recipe for Business Success).

Curt has mentored hundreds of entrepreneurs and developed a highly successful business incubator, The Entrepreneurial Development Center, that is getting national attention. He is also the organizer of the CEO Mastermind group. Curt has put his business on the INC500 fastest growing companies multiple years in a row.

Your going to create a spreadsheet where all your tasks are to be documented with the following columns:

  • Today's date
  • Task - Brief Title for Task
  • Name - Who the task is assigned to
  • Projected - Projected completion Date
  • Complete - Actual Complete Date
  • Notes - Places to keep brief updates

You may want to keep this spreadsheet in Google docs. Google docs has a spreadsheet function available online for free.

Going forward, you want to schedule a weekly meeting where you will add additional tasks, review existing tasks, determine if tasks have been achieved, adjust time frames and hold those accountable for completion of their work. This plan works no matter if you are a one person operation, or if you have multiple people on your team.

Make sure that you keep a running list of your tasks. This is a great motivation to show just how far you have come.
